Pakistan Marine Academy

Pakistan Marine Academy (PMA), under the Federal Ministry of Maritime Affairs, is the country’s only public institute providing pre- and post-sea training in Nautical Sciences and Marine Engineering for local and global maritime careers.
PMA is one of the oldest Seafarers' Training institute of the Region

Nautical

Focuses on navigation, ship handling, cargo operations and safety management. Cadets are trained to become Navigation Officers, with career progression leading up to the rank of Captain/Master.

Engineering

Covers ship propulsion, machinery, electrical and auxiliary systems. Cadets are prepared for roles as Marine Engineers, advancing towards Chief Engineer Officer positions

GP-II

Provides training for support roles in ship operations, maintenance, and catering services. GP-II ratings assist Deck and Engineering departments, ensuring safe and efficient shipboard operations.

The Merchant Navy - A Brief Introduction

The Merchant Navy is the name given to the international commercial shipping industry. It is made up of a large number of shipping companies who recruit their own Officer Cadets. Merchant seafarers, both officers and ratings, are civilians employed by these companies. Companies vary greatly in the size of ships, types of ships and areas of the world where they operate.
Types of modern merchant ship include container ships, cruise liners, oil tankers, gas tankers, chemical carriers, bulk carriers, cable layers, Ro/Ro ferries, car carriers, oil-rig supply vessels and general purpose cargo ships. Their trade routes may take them to every continent and across every ocean on the globe.

Pakistan Marine Academy was established in erstwhile East Pakistan in 1962. It was located on the east bank of the river KarnaphulI, facing the Bay of Bengal.

The Academy is situated adjacent to seaside and is at a distance of 10 Kilometers from the main city, therefore, having clean & green environment. Recently around 5,000 Mangroves have been planted to further enhance the greenery in the campus

The Academy has a faculty comprising of twenty permanently employed members supplemented by visiting instructors and guest scholars as necessary. The team of instructors at PMA includes experienced naval and merchant marine officers and scholars, who mostly hold post graduate qualifications in their respective fields from various universities besides vast practical experience at sea.

Training - Friendly Countries

Candidates from friendly countries are admitted on Government to Government arrangements, subject to availability of seats.
Selection Procedure
> Submission of Application Forms within Due Date.
> Entrance Test by Testing Service Agency at designted stations.
> Medical examination of short listed candidates at designated Hospitals.
> Final selection will be based on Testing Agency result and Total Marks obtained in Intermediate/equivalent examination (purely merit).
> 20 seats (10 in each discipline) are reserved under Self Finance Scheme (SFS).
> Branches (Nautical Science/Marine Engineering) are allocated after joining the Academy on the basis of merit position, medical fitness, Cadets’ choice and availability of seats.
Completed a comprehensive 2-year residential maritime training program at the Pakistan Marine Academy, Karachi, focusing on seamanship, navigation, marine engineering, and leadership development.
> Associate Degree in Ship Management or Marine Engineering Discipline by NED University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi.
> Seaman Service Book (SSB) by Government of Pakistan.
> Certificates of IMO recognised Pre Sea Mandatory Courses by PMA.
